From the bustling streets of Catania, where Baroque architecture and vibrant markets enchant visitors, to the picturesque hilltop town of Taormina, overlooking the Ionian Sea with its ancient Greek theatre, Eastern Sicily is a treasure trove of culture, cuisine, and natural beauty. Here, you can savour authentic Sicilian flavours, witness living history, and bask in the Mediterranean's splendour, making it an enticing destination for travellers seeking a diverse and unforgettable Italian experience.

We absolutely LOVED Sicily!

Transportation

We flew from Naples to Catania. Upon landing in Catania, we hopped on the airport bus to reach our destination in the city center. While exploring Catania, we utilized the public bus system, although it can be inconsistent at times. On one occasion when the bus wasn't ideal for our plans, we opted for an Uber ride. To venture to Taormina, we opted for the coastal train, a cost-effective and dependable mode of transportation for our journey.

We stayed in Catania as our home base while travelling in Sicily. Catania is a city steeped in history and vibrant culture. Its UNESCO-listed Baroque architecture graces the streets, alongside bustling markets and charming piazzas. With the imposing presence of Mount Etna in the backdrop, Catania is a city of contrasts, where ancient traditions and modern life coexist. Visitors can savour delectable Sicilian cuisine, explore historic landmarks like the Catania Cathedral, and enjoy the lively atmosphere of this dynamic Italian destination. Etna wine and Sicilian sunshine

We took a day trip to the gorgeous mountain town of Taormina. This captivating town is perched atop a picturesque hill on Sicily's eastern coast and is renowned for its stunning views of the Ionian Sea and enchanting charm. Its ancient Greek Theater, with panoramic vistas, is a testament to its rich history, while the quaint streets are lined with boutiques, cafes, and artisan shops. We absolutely loved Taormina, it was among one of the best destinations we went to on our trip. For more on this amazing destination, check out my blog here.
